OTTAWA – Severe storms which spawned tornadoes hit northern Illinois Tuesday.

A falling tree in the LaSalle County town of Ottawa killed one person. Officials say the tree was uprooted. There were also injuries at the LaSalle County Nursing Home in Ottawa, although the number of injuries isn’t exactly known.

Storms which stretched from Peoria to Cook County had heavy rain and baseball-sized hail in some locations. More tornadoes were reported after 5 p.m. near Washburn, Toluca and Rutland.
