Area FFA farm show a hit
FORREST – Around 80 exhibitors displayed products and services during Saturday’s Prairie Central FFA Farm and Home Show in Forrest, sponsored by the P.C. FFA chapter and alumni affiliate.
P.C. FFA President Kylie Miller says visitors and businesses come from “far and wide” each year to support the chapter. There was free admission and visitors were able to enjoy a pork chop and pork burger lunch. FFA members sold raffle tickets for a 1952 Oliver 88 diesel and Phantom 4 Drone.
“We work with our alumni to get everything ready,” Miller explained.
It’s a busy time for Prairie Central – as the school’s FFA Hog Roast and Auction is planned for March 16 at the high school in Fairbury. A free meal will be served from 4:30-6 p.m. with the live auction starting after that.
“That’s a fun evening. Come out and support the FFA,” added Miller.
The chapter has had a good year as the Dairy Products team just won the state contest. They also experienced success at nationals. The school took seven teams to nationals in October and the advisors spent quite a bit of time getting the students prepared. So far, two teams are going back next October.
“Our whole team and chapter puts in a lot of hard work,” said FFA reporter Megan Ifft. “Our advisors also put in a lot of work to help us get where we are today.”
We caught up with several of the exhibitors at the Farm and Home Show.
“It’s a nice cold, blustery day but there are a lot of fun things for kids to do and vendors happy to show what they can do for you,” said Marlin Miller of Fairbury-Cropsey Community Bank.
Brett Fehr of F&R Lawncare and Landscaping promoted an outdoor kitchen display which included a built-in grill. Also, a nearby screen showed pictures of past jobs done by F&R.
“We like to consider ourselves a full-service lawncare and landscaping shop with anything from installs of patios to maintenance such as mowing and bush trimming. Pretty well anything you need, we can take care of it,” said Fehr.
The Fairbury Prairie Farmers 4-H Club displayed a field of paper corn with a corn game for the kids.
“We ask them a question that corresponds with a toy,” explained 4-H member Ashlyn Kratochvil. “If they get it right, then they get a piece of candy.”
The club meets every month and always tries to do a project, such as tray favors and stockings for nursing homes.
