Auction the place to be in Lexington

LEXINGTON – The Lexington High School FFA meal and auction was the place to be Friday night, as numerous citizens came out to support the local chapter.

The fourth annual “Auction for Agriculture Students” took place in the high school cafeteria and gym with area businesses donating items to be auctioned off. A silent auction was held in conjunction with the pork chop meal.

Lexington FFA President Craig Birkenbeil is responsible for making sure everyone works together. He said the school did well with dairy judging this year and he really enjoys FFA.

“It has really helped me decide what I want to do in my future,” Birkenbeil said.

FFA member Kayleigh Laesch was busy preparing drinks and serving food. She was one of the many people working behind-the-scenes at the event.

“Everybody is donating things, sorting things and just everybody is involved,” she said.

Sentinel Will Steffen helped put together a party cooler which was a hot auction item last year. He enjoys attending the state and national conventions and getting to meet new people along the way.

“I like mechanical things. I like farming and I’d like to own my own shop of some sort someday.”

Chapter secretary and vice president Devin Laible has had a fun time this year and he manages to stay busy. Laible is looking to poultry production as a possible career down the road.

“It’s definitely going to be a fun one this year with all the different events that we participate in,” Laible said.

The Lexington FFA chapter tries to volunteer in the community as much as it can. One of the activities includes a fall cleanup day. The FFA advisor is Christina Bissey.

Central Illinois Farm Network’s coverage of the Lexington FFA auction was sponsored by Martin-Sullivan John Deere, Brandt Consolidated and Bloomington Farm Management Service.
