Pork Expo starts Tuesday

The 2017 Illinois Pork Expo is back at the Prairie Capital Convention Center on January 31-February 1 and this year’s theme is “The Power of Us”. There is strength in numbers and working together will allow us to learn, face challenges, and succeed in the coming years. It is sure to be a jam packed two days of everything pork!

Expo Highlights:

Commercial Production A to Z (Wednesday Feb. 1) will cover all aspects of commercial production, whether you are a seasoned producer or are thinking about raising pigs, there is something for everyone.

  • Opportunities, Expectations, and Experiences for Contract Growers

  • Lending Requirements for Contract Production

  • Fertilizer Values – Saving Money by Using Manure

  • Ventilation Systems of Swine Barns and New Technologies

  • Employee Onboarding and Retention

PLUS a Market Update Session and the Producer Perspective on New Packing Plants & Industry Outlook.

Youth/Showpig Seminar (Wednesday Feb. 1) In this seminar there will be updates from various associations and the Illinois State Fair. Speakers will also talk about the new Livestock Quality Assurance Program for Youth, showpig feed readiness, and getting showpigs cycled.

See Illinois’ Largest Swine-Specific Trade Show!! The tradeshow floor has been rearranged for 2017 to make room for more exhibitors and we are on track to sell out again! The trade show floor will be open Tuesday Jan. 31 from 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Wednesday Feb. 1 from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.

IPPA Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday Jan. 31 at 9:30 AM. Delegates from across Illinois will debate and approve policies related to pork production, organizational issues, and elect IPPA board members.

The Recognition Luncheon will be on Tuesday Jan. 31 at Noon. Join us in congratulating our award winners and new youth ambassador. Attendees will also get an opportunity to meet the new National Pork Board CEO, Bill Even, and hear from National Pork Producers Council CEO, Neil Dierks, on issues impacting our industry at the federal level. Additional ticket required.

IL Pork PAC auctions, both silent and live, will be held during the IL Pork Expo. The silent auction will be open Tuesday Jan. 31 from 2:00 PM – 9:00 PM and Wednesday Feb. 1 from 8:00 AM – 12:30 PM, while the live auction will be held on Wednesday Feb. 1 from 12:30 PM – 1:00 PM. These auctions will feature various donated items from county pork producer groups and allied industry. The proceeds from both auctions will go towards the IL Pork PAC to fund legislative efforts that support the pork industry.

The Pork Production Auction will be held on Tuesday Jan. 31 at 7:00 PM on the trade show floor. Agribusiness have generously donated many quality products and services ranging from feed and vaccines to baseball tickets and gift cards! All proceeds from this auction will go towards IPPA’s non-checkoff activities.

Legislative Reception. Once again we have incorporated our annual legislative reception with the IL Pork Expo. The Legislative Reception will be held on Tuesday Jan. 31 from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM on the trade show floor. Attendees will have the chance to engage with legislators and talk to them about the industry. Meal & beverages included, no charge for Expo attendees.
