Moffitt appointed to IDOA

A former state representative has been appointed to the post of assistant director for the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

Gov. Bruce Rauner’s office announced late last week that Don Moffitt will serve in the role. He is a lifelong farmer with experience in both state and local governments which makes him “uniquely qualified for the role” according to Rauner’s office.

Moffitt represented the 74th district of the House since 1993, serving as minority spokesperson for the Agriculture and Conservation Committee and the Counties and Townships committee. He also co-chaired a fire protection task force and a task force for emergency medical services.

Moffitt also served on a number of other committees ranging from education, public safety and infrastructure. He previously served as Knox County treasurer and has held a number of other local government positions including mayor of Oneida. Moffitt was also a high school agriculture teacher.
