County approves union contract
BLOOMINGTON - Members of the McLean County Board have approved a union contract.
During Tuesday’s regular meeting at the Government Center in downtown Bloomington, the group authorized the three-year deal with AFSCME Local 537 covering almost 20 employees of the county’s Highway Department. The employees include laborers and drivers. Negotiations continue with correctional officers and emergency dispatchers.
In another matter, the upcoming inauguration of Donald Trump was referred to at the start of the meeting during an invocation given by District Four representative William T. Caisley.
“Endue with a spirit of wisdom those to whom we have entrusted the power to govern for the next four years that there may be justice in our land and peace throughout the world. Make them ever mindful of their calling to serve all of our people that we may be a people at peace among ourselves and a blessing to other nations of the earth,” the resolution stated.
Following the meeting, Caisley noted the “contentiousness” going on surrounding the upcoming presidency.
“I think that’s not necessarily a healthy thing. We ought to see what develops before we begin making criticisms and so forth. I’m sure we will survive a Trump administration as we survived 46 or 47 others that preceded it,” Caisley said.
