State Fair coliseum unsafe
SPRINGFIELD - An engineering firm's analysis indicates the Coliseum at the Illinois State Fairgrounds is not safe for the public.
Corrosion on steel support columns could lead to multiple failures, according to the lengthy report. The document also indicates mold, roof leaks and peeling paint. The report was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request from the Springfield State Journal-Register newspaper.
The Coliseum was closed in the fall after a loose ceiling beam was discovered. The popular facility has been used for concerts, horse shows and other activities. Some larger events have been moved to other locations. It could cost an estimated $3.7 million to address the issues.
