Illinois crop production report
USDA has released crop production information for Illinois.
Corn: Planted area is estimated at 11.7 million acres, unchanged from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 11.5 million acres, is also unchanged from 2015. Based on September 1 conditions, the Illinois corn yield is forecast at 200 bushels per acre, unchanged from August but up 25 bushels from 2015.
Production is forecast at 2.30 billion bushels, also unchanged from August but up 14 percent from last year’s production. If realized this would tie the 2014 record corn yield and be the second highest production on record behind 2014.
Soybeans: Planted area is estimated at 9.90 million acres, up 1 percent from last year. Harvested area, forecast at 9.84 million acres, is up 1 percent from 2015. Based on September 1 conditions, the Illinois soybean yield is forecast at 61 bushels per acre, a 5 bushel increase from 2015. If realized, this would be the highest yield on record for the state. Production is forecast at a record setting 600 million bushels, a 10 percent increase from last year.
