UPDATE: Reunion cancelled at Pontiac

PONTIAC – There’s a first for everything, including the cancellation of the five-day Threshermen’s Reunion near Pontiac.

For the first time in the show’s 67 year existence, organizers have called off the reunion due to saturated grounds with water still standing in places. As of Tuesday morning, the board was still planning on holding an abbreviated show then three tenths of rain fell in the afternoon which pretty much made the decision, according to first vice-president Dave Herz.

“I went out and walked the grounds this morning to see if there was a possibility, but there’s water sitting everywhere,” he said. “We’ve really got no place to put the tractors without cutting the ground up.”

Herz said he would rather cancel an entire show than only do a half show. He describes the decision as “unfortunate.”

Sunday’s Threshermen’s Parade through downtown Pontiac is still scheduled to go on as planned, according to the Pontiac Area Chamber of Commerce. Step off is at 1:15 p.m. and a few of the traditional steam engines are still expected to appear in the parade. Also, the South Shore Drill Team will perform.
