Constant mowing means good crops

COOKSVILLE – There has been plenty of mowing taking place this season throughout Central Illinois and that is a good sign, according to an area ag retailer.

Doug Matlock, who manages the Brandt Consolidated Cooksville location, says all of the crops look good in his area. The green grass in the ditches and constant mowing usually means good yields out in the field.

“We’ve got ample moisture out there for the crop,” Matlock told The Central Illinois Farm Network recently.

Soybean fungicide spraying has pretty much wrapped up in the area, although concerns remain over continued humidity.

“We are staying wet well beyond noon so with that, the diseases have really prospered,” added Matlock.
