Illinois hogs & pigs report released
Illinois inventory of all hogs and pigs on June 1, 2016 was 5.10 million head, the same as March 1, 2016 but up 10 percent from last year.
Breeding inventory, at 530,000 head, was up 6 percent from the previous quarter and up 8 percent from last year. Market hog inventory, at 4.57 million head, was down 1 percent from last quarter but up 10 percent from last year. The March-May 2016 pig crop, at 2.60 million head, was up 8 percent from 2015.
Sows farrowing during this period totaled 250,000 head, up 9 percent from last year. The average pigs saved per litter was 10.4 for the March-May period, compared with 10.5 last year.
