Hay shed destroyed by fire
FAIRBURY – A building housing hay and tools was destroyed by fire over the weekend and authorities aren’t sure of the cause.
Firefighters were called to the Freed farm near county roads 1075 North and 2200 East north of Fairbury around 10:45 p.m. Saturday. Assistant Fairbury fire chief Martin Steidinger said when firefighters arrived, the fire was fully engulfed.
“Our big thing was water. We needed water bad,” Steidinger stated.
According to Steidinger, firefighters let the building burn because the fire was contained. Much of the building was filled with hay.
In addition to Fairbury, responding agencies included fire departments from Chatsworth, Strawn, Forrest, Pontiac and Saunemin. SELCAS ambulance personnel were also on hand. There were no reports of injuries.
